Nominations for the Catherine Lyons Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Undergraduate Student Award are now being accepted. This award is made annually by the EMS Diversity Council and honors an undergraduate student who has demonstrated exemplary leadership that manifests the ideals of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging into practical action. Please consider nominating someone you know who has been outstanding in this area.

Fuel cells offer a form of clean energy across many sectors and are of particular interest in vehicles, where they produce no emissions. The production of fuel cells requires the use of a rapid laser welding process; however, welding at too high a speed results in humping, marked by surface irregularities on the weld seam.
Formed in 2009, the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences (EMS) Academy for Global Experience, or EMSAGE, is the college’s signature undergraduate program for fostering experiential and global competence and promoting a spirit of integrity, service, and leadership. By comprehensively embracing these principles, students develop into leaders in their chosen discipline who possess the breadth and maturity to extend their knowledge to address society’s most pressing problems. The brand-new College of Earth and Mineral Science’s Educational Equity Community Room offers gathering space for EMS students in support of our diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging goals, the University Values of Respect and Community, and the EMS Values of Inclusivity and Safety and Wellbeing. This welcoming, comfortable, and flexible space can be used for student group activities, study sessions, Zoom calls, networking events, or just hanging out. Open to both undergrad and grad students, it offers unique opportunities for fostering community.
The dates for the Safer People Safer Places workshops are now open for the spring semester. The Safer People Safer Places network strives to create a safer and more inclusive campus for sexual and gender diversity.
The Foundations Workshop dates will be Friday, January 31st, 10am-12pm, Tuesday, February 25th, 11am-1pm, and Wednesday March 5th, 9-11am. The first two will be held via Zoom and the one in March will take place in the HUB.

Penn State's Sustainable Labs Program is seeking interested labs for its 2025-26 cohort. The program offers labs an exciting opportunity for labs to improve sustainability practices and work toward earning a My Green Lab Certification.
