Due to our strong relationships with our industrial and academic partners, students in the department have access to a variety of resources for short term career development opportunities and for full time employment after graduation.
Engineering ECareer Database
The department works directly with the Engineering Career Resources and Employer Relations Office in the College of Engineering to provide access to their Engineering eCareer Database. This online tool allows MatSE students to browse an abundant list of internships, co-ops, research opportunities and permanent full time positions.
To take full advantage of all the opportunities and networks, make sure to Register with Engineering's eCareer Database to begin browsing positions.
There are information sessions, workshops and recruiting days going on year round, so make sure to check out the upcoming events page.
International Internship in Materials (IIM)
Thanks to the generous support of the Bayer USA Foundation and the Alcoa Campus Partnership Program, students in the department have an opportunity to participate in an internship at an international partner university. Students interested in this research internship opportunity can find more information on the International Internship in Materials (IIM) section of our site.
Our department is regularly notified of job opportunities that may be of interest to our students. Positions are regularly posted on the Job Opportunites page. This board features a collection of positions—from internships to full time employement opportunities—submitted to the department by our industry contacts and other academic institutions. The MatSE job board is a great place to browse possible career or career development opportunities.
The Department of Materials Science and Engineering uses the eCareer system, a free online job search system that lists current engineering co-op, internship, and entry-level full-time opportunities at hundreds of companies and government agencies across the country and around the world. Visit the eCareer website.
- Job descriptions are posted by employers seeking Penn State students or graduates and are reviewed and pre-approved by eCareer staff to ensure their technical relevance.
- Through eCareer, students can use eCareer to view information about on-campus recruiting (interviews), available positions (for employers not coming to campus), and employer informational meetings, events, and presentations.
- eCareer is available to all undergraduate and graduate students in the Department of Materials Science and engineering, as well as recent alums from these colleges.
