Do you have questions about how a degree in materials science and engineering can support your career goals and aspirations? Are you curious about what students pursue after graduation? To help answer these questions, we asked several alumni to share their post-graduation plans.
Julia Chen, Class of 2025
I'll be pursuing a Ph.D. at the University of California - Santa Barbara in the materials department under Dr. Jeff Sakamoto. Looking ahead to the future, I'll be helping the UC system and California establish a battery lab meant to train workers and scientists on battery science! ⠀
Lucas Erich, Class of 2023
I'll be undertaking a materials science and engineering internship at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory as a senior technical intern in the Fleet Material Applications & Metallography Organization. This is a sort of precursor to graduate school, which I will be attending at the University of California, Santa Barbara to obtain a Ph.D. in materials.
Aarushi Jadhav, Class of 2023
I'll be moving to Boston to work at a startup called Phoenix Tailings as a Materials Engineering Co-op. I’ll be working on extracting rare earth elements (REEs) from mine tailings to develop new ways the U.S. can meet our domestic REE demands in energy-efficient and ethical ways. I’m super excited to move to Boston, work in an industry I’m passionate about and possibly adopt a cat!
