The MatSE Faculty Member of the Year Award recognizes a faculty member who displays excellence in teaching, research, advising or outreach. Nominations for this award are sent to the student advisory committee and the students choose the recipient.
MatSE is committed to providing a safe working environment for all members of the department. We insist that all faculty, staff, students, and researchers always use safe work methods and practices. The safety and health efforts of this department are an integral part of our daily operations.
We have a number of students, faculty, staff, and alumni that lead our safety inniciatives, and we appreciate all that you do.

MatSE strives to foster and enrich the academic experiences of students who seek exceptional challenges and growth. Our 2022 Awards Presentation recognizes the superior academic undergraduate accomplishments along with other department achievements from the academic year.
We have more than 50 active scholarship opportunities available to our undergraduate students and awarded more than $250,000 to our students each year.

This year marked the 21st annual MatSE Awards Celebration which recognized the achievements of MatSE students, staff, faculty, and alumni whose contributions continue to make MatSE a top-ranked materials science and engineering program.
The evening was also an occasion for MatSE to express appreciation for the generous support received throughout the year from alumni, friends, and partners. It is their generosity that is critical in furthering the MatSE mission.
The American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) has elected a Penn State engineer to its College of Fellows. Dipanjan Pan, Dorothy Foehr Huck & J. Lloyd Huck Chair Professor in Nanomedicine and professor of nuclear engineering and of materials science and engineering, was inducted at the 2023 AIMBE ceremony held March 26-27 in Washington, D.C. Pan is also affiliated with the Department of Biomedical Engineering and with the Huck Institutes.
