Our students are receiving a rich engineering education through critical hands-on experience in our seven undergraduate labratories in the Steidle Building. All the undergraduate labs are located on the first floor in Steilde and include:
Undergraduate Instructional Lab
Optical Microscopy Lab
Advanced Microscopy Lab
Advanced Materials Processing Lab
Thermal Analysis Lab
Safety First in our labs
MatSE is committed to providing a safe working environment for all members of the department. We insist that all faculty, staff, students, and researchers use safe work methods and practices at all times. Safety First is an integral part of our daily operations.
According to MatSE policy, all students, and any staff who may be working in a lab are required to pass the department safety exam before we can grant access to any of the department labs, which includes the computer lab. Information about the safety requirements and gaining access to labs click here.
Testing to analyze materials' properties
In this lab, student are using non-destructive testing to analyze materials' properties. They are measuring elastic and plastic deformation in metals, ceramic and polymers with techniques such as Rockwell hardness and ultrasonic analysis.
Designed for undergraduate education
The Steidle Building houses seven state-of-the-art laboratories designed and dedicated to undergraduate education focusing on hands-on experience.
