What would be your dream job and how did EMS put you closer to this goal?

Ideally I want to earn my Ph.D. in MATSE to continue my research in electrochemical materials while being able to teach others. EMS helped me find this path by introducing me to amazing research professors who inspired me to follow in their footsteps to help the future generation.

What made you choose your major?

I started in EMS as an environmental systems engineering major but, at TEEMS, while speaking with an upperclassmen MATSE I learned all about the opportunities in the major and how I can connect it to sustainable materials in energy.

What is the one Penn State activity that everyone should participate in, and why?

THON! Penn State THON weekend at the BJC is the most unreal experience ever! There is so much joy and laughter being spread all for a great cause, it is truly a scene out of a movie. Not only is it such a fun weekends, the year of fundraising includes exciting activities for both raising money for the cause and being able to spend time with our Four Diamonds families.

What’s the best part about being an EMS student?

The Ryan Family Student Center! From free snacks, printing, and a place to study, the RFSC became my second home for finals week, office hours, and any down time in the day. Faculty in the RFSC such as, Stacy Davidson and Karen Marosi, are also always there to chat, give advice, & help you with anything from school advice to the daily Globle game.

What is one piece of advice you would give to prospective students?

Visit! I did not realize this was where I was meant to be until I went to EMEX, which sounds cliché BUT, it is so true! I recommend attended EMEX or an EMS Ambassador led tour to see the college and meet other students prior to attending to get a feel of the college. And, if you do commit to Penn State, try attempting TEEMS for a fun weekend of games and meeting other first years.

What opportunities has Penn State provided for you so far?

I joined a research group under an Energy Engineering professor in summer 21 where I realized how much I love research and academia! My professor also introduced me to an internship position with Los Alamos National Lab which I am currently working at!
