The Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) Interaction of Ionizing Radiation with Matter (IIRM) University Research Alliance (URA) is hosting a series of student focused STEM challenges.
In this scenario, students will be tasked with virtually piloting a drone through a complex which formerly contained nuclear weapons. Aspiring pilots will provide reconnaissance to identify radiological threats for friendly forces who are moving into the area. Registration information can be found on the attached flyer (registration link: 2024 IIRM Drone Competition Registration). Participants who register by Wednesday, March 6 will receive a link via email on Thursday, March 7 to log into the simulation, after which participants can log in and complete the challenge AT ANY TIME between when they receive the link and Wednesday, March 13.
No prior drone piloting, gaming, or radiation background is required! The competition is designed for first time users to be able to succeed, and those who rank in the top three will receive monetary prizes as detailed below.
First place: $300
Second place: $200
Third place: $100
All participants will receive a free T-shirt! This competition is sponsored by the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) Interaction of Ionizing Radiation with Matter (IIRM) University Research Alliance (URA). Our goal is to provide a series of outreach challenges to introduce a broad range of students to the research associated with Detecting, Deterring, and Defending against Weapons of Mass Destruction.
