Description
The Department of Materials Science and Engineering will be accepting applications for travel grants each semester (Fall/Spring/Summer). Spring Semester applications will open November 13, 2023 and close December 15, 2023. Students who plan to travel during the dates January 1, 2024 through May 31, 2024 are eligible to apply during this application cycle.
Guidelines:
- If awarded, you will be required to provide at least 2 pictures of yourself on your trip and a thank you letter to share with the donor. The thank you letter should include about you, your trip and thank them for helping to sponsor your trip.
- Funds are to be used for travel to conference/workshops where students make a presentation - especially for international travel outside your home country.
- Students may request up to $500 (domestic) or $1,000 (international), which must be matched by travel funds from the faculty advisor.
- All students, faculty, and staff traveling either in a group or individually for University purposes (with a club, organization, team, college, or department) or with University funding must record international travel in the TSN database prior to departure as outlined in the University's International Travel Requirements Policy. This includes travel for international research, conferences, and internships. Complete a new travel record for each of your university-affiliated international trips at least 30 days before you depart.
- Students must be in full-time status during the semester of travel.
To Apply
- Complete the MATSE Travel Grant request form (attached) , all information must be included (i.e. IO for travel support)
- Submit a letter describing the relevance of the conference/workshop to your research and professional development.
- Please provide a table of anticipated expenses.
- Include a draft copy of the conference/workshop abstract along with the letter.
- Include a brief letter of nomination from your research adviser that includes a statement verifying the availability of the remainder of travel support from research grants or contracts.
