PPG is one of the world’s largest coatings companies. PPG, headquartered in Pittsburgh, has been a great industry partner to Penn State. They provide funding for PPG Graduate Research Fellows. They partner with us on industry sponsored research projects. They hire many of our MS and PhD graduates. And they support events like the PPG Elevator Pitch Competition and the Safety Olympics.
PPG will be visiting again on May 22nd and 23rd to tell us a little bit about their company (over a dish of creamery ice cream), to participate as judges in our Elevator Pitch Competition on May 23rd, and to meet with graduate students 1:1 to answer any questions that you may have about working in industry. Feel free to ask them tough questions, like how do you screen resumes, what does a typical workday look like, or what is the going rate for a PhD chemical engineer in 2023?
Please see attached flyer for more details. The information session on May 22nd and the Elevator Pitch competition on May 23rd are in the MSC Commons. The 1:1 meetings on May 23rd will be in the BOA Center.
Note that we have 45 students signed up to compete, but we are still adding people to the standby list for Elevator Pitch competition. Last year we pulled quite a few from the stand-by list to compete. And there is another training session on Tuesday May 9th at 1pm. For more information or to sign up go to: https://www.mri.psu.edu/2023-pitch-competition
If you wish to sign up early for meetings with a PPG representative between 1:00 and 3pm on May 23rd in the BOA Center you can go to Interview Signups.
