Alexandru Marin
Alexandru Horia Marin earned his doctorate from the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Romanian Academy in 2015. Following his doctoral studies, he joined the Institute for Nuclear Research Pitesti in Mioveni, Romania, as a researcher. He subsequently held a postdoctoral position at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Garching, Germany, before joining Penn State as a postdoctoral researcher.
His research focuses on investigating the surface chemistry of a broad range of materials from nuclear materials to biomaterials using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. In addition to studying plasma-material interactions for fusion-energy and biomaterial applications, he develops oxide-ceramic coatings on titanium, magnesium, and zirconium alloys via plasma electrolytic oxidation to improve their mechanical properties and corrosion resistance for industrial applications.
