Dr. Mary T. Strzelecki is the R&D Manager at AdvanSix, located in S. Chesterfield, VA .
Mary started her professional career at PPG Industries where she was a Senior Research Scientist supporting the development of new float glass compositions for enhanced aesthetics and performance for both automotive and architectural markets. She was a key developer on the patented technology for high performance, neutral-colored glasses for high end automobiles. After leaving PPG, Mary worked at Corning, Inc. as a Senior Glass Scientist focusing on the development of Erbium-doped optical glasses for amplifier applications in the rapidly growing optical communications field. Mary then took a position at Schott Glass Technologies where she led an applications development team in the area of Low Temperature Bonding of glasses and glass ceramics for a host of optical and structural applications. Mary transitioned into business-oriented roles when she joined Armstrong World Industries and held positions as both a Project Manager and Product Marketing Manager to lead growth in the Residential Vinyl Sheet and Tile businesses. Mary then joined DuPont in the Central Research and Development division and subsequently spent 8 years in a variety of Technology Leadership and Strategy Planning roles in multiple DuPont businesses and functions before joining Axalta. Mary is currently the Technology Director for Application Development at AdvanSix focused on developing new products and markets for the Nylon and Chemical Intermediates businesses.
Mary obtained her B.S. degree in Ceramic Science and Engineering (1994) and PhD degree (1999) in Materials from Penn State University. Her graduate work under Dr. Carlo Pantano involved the characterization of glass structures and the correlation to their corrosion behavior.
