Newell Brands is searching for a highly motivated Plastics Engineer.  The ideal candidate will work across multiple functions and collaborate with all the Newell Brands divisions as a centralized resource. The position will require the technical ability to develop a deep understanding of new polymer technologies and the associated value proposition while being able to manage and execute on the commercial aspects of the development programs.
The candidate will be co-developing new materials to support Newell Brands win bigger businesses model.  He/she must have expertise in the area of polymers relative to thermal, mechanical and rheological properties. He/she should also have a solid knowledge of injection, extrusion and blow molding processes.

DUTIES:
• A Plastics Engineer is responsible for researching and understanding processes related to plastic products.  They will often work in conjunction with raw material vendors, manufacturing facilities and product engineering.
• Identifies cost and risks at the product component level to meet all financial targets and productivity goals.
• Interact with raw material purchasing and supply chain functions to implement strategies and action plans to ensure that suppliers support Newell Brands business needs.
• Evaluates and utilizes internal/external technologies and partnering with key suppliers to solve complex problems which will enhance product design, performance and assure best cost.
• Provide material expertise and leadership for plastics based programs. This may include prototyping, pilot operations and process characterization to ensure the successful implementation of projects and savings opportunities.
• Proactively attend conferences and meet with vendors to identify new trends and technology that could lead to new product advancements and cost savings opportunities.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to perform failure analysis and evolution of thermoplastics materials.
• Conduct experiments and operate various analytical testing equipment such as DSC, TGA, FT-IR and MFI in a polymer lab environment.

PREFERABLE CHARACTERISTICS:
• B.S./M.S. in Plastics Engineering, Polymer Science, Materials Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
• 3+ years of experience in plastics or a manufacturing setting.
• Broad knowledge of plastic resins (both commodity and engineering) as well as colorants and additives
• Knowledge and/or experience with secondary plastic operations including plastic welding, coatings, adhesive bonding, plating operations and screw and insert designs.
• History of working independently and as a member of a cross-functional team.
• Effective planning/organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to multi-task and set priorities.
• Evidence of strong problem solving skills and developing solutions for smooth workflow.
• Up to 25% travel, both domestic and international is required.
