"How Materials Science Drives New Product Development and Business Growth"

New Product Development is a critical initiative in many companies today as they are under increasingly higher pressure to grow their businesses, and at a faster rate than ever before.  Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to work at multiple companies and be involved with different types of Materials Science-based innovations that have resulted in exciting new products. Each of these technologies has had their own scientific and commercial challenges, and that has taught me a lot about how to manage New Product Development to support the strategic objectives of a company.  Having this perspective from different companies and industries, who all do things a little differently, was instrumental in preparing me for my current role in R&D Portfolio Management.  In this discussion, I will share an overview of some materials technologies and products I worked on, highlight my personal and professional learnings from these experiences, and show how this influences the way New Product Development is managed today in materials-based industries to create business growth.
