Speaker: Sarah Korman, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary at Absci
Biography
Sarah Korman is Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary at Absci, a leading generative AI Drug Creation company with a mission to create better biologics for patients, faster. Prior to joining Absci, Sarah served as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary at Neuvogen. She was previously at Amgen, where she held numerous roles including Head of Intellectual Property for Final Drug Products. Before that, Sarah held increasingly senior legal positions at Onyx Pharmaceuticals and served as an intern at the World Intellectual Property Organization Coordination Office at the United Nations. Sarah holds a PhD in Materials Science & Engineering from The Pennsylvania State University, a JD from DePaul University College of Law, and dual BS degrees in Chemistry and Metallurgical & Materials Engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology. She is a National Science Foundation Fellow and an inventor on various patents directed to nano-enabled therapeutics and drug delivery.

Biography
Prof. Darryl Butt has been the Dean of College of Mines and Earth Sciences at the University of Utah since 2016, and the Director of the MUSE, DOE BES Energy Frontier Research Center since 2018.
Dr. Butt holds BS and PhD degrees in Materials Science and Engineering from Penn State University. He is a graduate of the Harvard University, Management and Leadership in Education program, and a graduate and Fellow of the Executive Leadership Academy, Goldman School of Public Policy, at University of California-Berkeley.
Prior to joining the University of Utah, he was a Department Chair and Distinguished Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Boise State U, and an Associate Director of the Idaho National Laboratory-supported, Center for Advanced Energy Studies. He also has held various academic, research and leadership positions with Ceramatec, Inc., A. P. Green Industries, the University of Florida, and Los Alamos National Laboratory.
His experience and research interests are diverse including development of sensors and materials for extreme environments and energy applications, membrane technologies for gas separation and syngas production, technical issues associated with nuclear non-proliferation and international security, assessing the chemistry and physics of fluid transport in confined porosity of geologic materials, and chemical and engineering solutions to carbon dioxide emissions including early work on sequestration.
Dr. Butt is a Fellow of the American Ceramic Society (ACerS) and a member of the ACerS Board of Directors, and an Associate Editor of the J. Am. Ceram. Soc.
