Speaker: Xinyi Xiao, Assistant Professor of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at Miami University, Ohio
Topic: "3D - 4D - 5D Computational Advanced Manufacturing"
ABSTRACT
Dr. Xiao’s research is motivated by the gap between increasingly complex technologies and human intervention in information processing and decision making. By integrating computational methods and developing novel machine learning network, her research lies in (1) In-situ Process - Quality Prediction and Control in Additive Manufacturing, (2) Computational Autonomous Robotic Additive, (3) Design and Manufacture Multi-functional Functionally Graded Materials (FGM), and (4) Self-Morphing Structure Design and Control. She collaborates with interdisciplinary engineering researchers and has expertise in various research methods, including experiments, computational algorithms modeling, statistical analysis, and novel machine learning framework development.
BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Xiao joined Miami University in Fall 2020 and is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. She received her Ph.D. and master’s degrees in industrial engineering from The Pennsylvania State University in 2020 and 2017 respectively. Dr. Xiao’s past research lies in developing computational autonomous robotic additive/hybrid manufacturing processes which was funded by NSF, and US Army. Her current research interests mainly include in-situ multi-dimensional structure - process - quality interactions and control in AM/HM, multi-purpose functional graded material structures development and AM-driven self-morphing designs and control. Dr. Xiao has authored and co-authored over 20 journal papers including Additive Manufacturing, ASME and the CIRP journals. Her research findings have been widely reported by Science Daily, Design News, 3D printing industry, and Fabbaloo, etc.
