Date: May 31st (Wednesday) @ 1:00 - 2:00 PM Pacific Time / 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM Eastern Time / (directly after the public talk by Dr. Chen, separate registration)
Discussion will be led by AAPIiG Steering Committee and co-organizers Akilah Alwan (Graduate Research Fellow, Auburn University; National Association of Black Geoscientists) and Dr. Darryl Reano (Assistant Professor, School of Earth and Space Exploration, Arizona State University; Acoma Pueblo).
This is a closed 1-hour discussion following the public talk by Dr. Christine Yifeng Chen about systemic funding disparities. This discussion is intended to make space for participants to reflect on disconnects between broader scientific culture and their identities as members of marginalized groups in the context of persistent funding disparities. We encourage participants to share their personal observations and any commentary about the funding process; however, attendees do not need specific previous experience with NSF funding. Through our collective efforts, we hope to reimagine a more equitable and just future for scientific funding altogether.
Registration is required to attend. Please note that this will be an active discussion space (webcams strongly preferred for all participants).
