Introducing the Penn State Materials Spotlight Series
Center stage for the most relevant materials research topics
Glass Technology
(This event will be held virtually via Gather.Town. Information regarding signing on and using Gather.Town will be sent to registered attendees prior to the event.)
Presented by the Penn State Materials Research Institute, the Materials Spotlight Series is designed to create connections and spark discussions between industry and Penn State faculty and students that lead to productive research collaborations.
Our inaugural session, Glass Technology, looks at the 1/3/6-year 2/5/10-year challenges for the glass industry, such as technical challenges for future applications, sustainability, graduate hiring opportunities, and avoiding commoditization in glass market channels. This dynamic conversation will feature technology solution-focused, flash talks on specific glass topics by company representatives and Penn State faculty.
Ten-Minute Company Presentations
Corning (specialty glass): Christine Heckle, research director, inorganic materials research
Owens Corning (fiberglass): Dave Lancaster, senior R&D leader, glass science
Vitro (architectural glass): Adam Polcyn, vice president of research and development
Five-Minute Faculty Presentations
Glass Modeling: John Mauro, professor of materials science and engineering
Glass Surfaces: Seong Kim, professor of chemical engineering and professor of materials science and engineering
Infrastructure Applications Using Fiberglass: Charles Bakis, distinguished professor of engineering science and mechanics
