Metal Additive Manufacturing: Challenges & Considerations
ABSTRACT
Metal Additive Manufacturing is a rapidly growing technology in the aerospace, automotive, power generation and healthcare markets. With increased use and scale in an industrial environment, technology solutions are required to accelerate the development, qualification and certification of materials and process. This topic will cover applications of additive manufacturing with corresponding technical needs, solutions developed at GE Research and open challenges still present in industry.
BIOGRAPHY
Justin Gambone attended Penn State and Georgia Tech for a bachelor’s and master’s degree in mechanical engineering. While at Georgia Tech he worked as a research assistant to Dr. Suman Das, focusing on the development of a new metal additive process to facilitate single crystal growth in nickel based super alloys. In 2013 Justin joined GE Research, spending three years developing metal additive process technologies for GE Aviation and Power. After which, Justin moved to Auburn Alabama to assist in the production launch of the GEA LEAP Fuel Nozzle. Since returning, Justin has owned the qualification program portfolio and technology roadmap at GE Research while continuing to lead technology projects.
