User Facilities

Advanced Materials Processing Lab
Located in 22 Steidle Building, this cutting edge facility provides a learning environment that allows our students the opportunity to work with material development in the areas of thin films, micro deposition, bulk forming, plastic deformation, powder synthesis, and thermal processing.

Mechanical Testing Lab
The MTL is a user facility that contains specialized equipment for evaluating mechanical and thermal properties of materials at length scales ranging from nanometers to meters in controlled testing environments (temperatures up to 1600C and atmospheres ranging from reducing to oxidizing). The MTL is available to researchers at the Pennsylvania State University as well as external users.

Metallography and Microscopy Lab
Metallography is the preparation of specimens for microscopic examination and the study of microstructure in relation to the physical and mechanical properties of a particular material.

MRI Centers and Facilities MRI coordinates, administers, and supports several state-of-the-art research, fabrication, and characterization facilities at Penn State that are available to the academic and non-academic research communities. These shared facilities are staffed with full-time technical personnel who train researchers to use the instrumentation and tools themselves or assist researchers with their characterization and fabrication needs.
