Dr. R. Allen Kimel, Associate Head for Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering has outlined three important skills for success in Materials Science and Engineering at Penn State:

  • Time Management: Skills and techniques to manage your time when accomplishing tasks, projects and/or goals. How do you use your time effectively?

  • Study Skills: Strategies/approaches applied to learning.  What is your process for success in the classroom?

  • Self Discipline: Regulating one’s conduct by principle and sound judgment, how will you stay on track

There are many resources available to help you develop these three skills, including The College of Earth and Mineral Sciences’ Ryan Family Student Center and the University’s Learning Centers (ulc.psu.edu).
