Safety Week 2012

MatSE requires yearly refresher training to keep our personnel's safety knowledge and awareness up-to-date. We strive to maintain safety and training standards that are practiced at the National Labs and in industry. The safety program at Penn State is evolving rapidly due to increased oversight of the University by OSHA. We aim to be ahead of the curve and make MatSE stand out in terms of the Department's commitment to safe working conditions for everyone in the building and well-maintained labs.

The goals of Safety Week and the yearly safety training programs in MATSE are to:

  • Prepare students, postdocs, and other researchers for the safety environment that they will experience outside of Penn State in their professional careers.
  • Continue to be vigilant about the housekeeping and hazards in MATSE labs.
  • Enable productive research without delays due to accidents or injuries.
  • Demonstrate to visitors and observers outside MATSE that Penn State takes safety seriously and that everyone in the Department has a stake in creating a safe working environment.
