Welcome to the Spring/Summer 2023 newsletter! In this issue, I am truly delighted to introduce our four new faculty members. Their unique expertise and passion for teaching will ensure that MatSE students receive an excellent education at Penn State. Making sure that everyone in MatSE feels a true sense of inclusion and belonging is one of our core values, and I am happy to report on activities undertaken by our faculty, staff, and students towards this goal.
This issue of our newsletter also highlights some of the ways in which MatSE faculty are working to ensure America’s strong semiconductor future and working on materials to enable efficient thermoelectric devices. Our strength in two-dimensional materials is also discussed, as well as its impact on electronic devices of the future. The newsletter additionally features a video from MatSE doctoral student, Katy Gerace, on the important topic of improving glass recycling.
I am thrilled to share with you the accomplishments of our students, faculty, staff, and alumni, and the accolades and honors they have received. This is a truly remarkable place, and I am honored to be a part of such a vibrant and impactful community.
