Newell Rubbermaid is searching for a highly motivated Associate Materials Engineer.  The ideal candidate will work across multiple functions and collaborate with all the Newell Rubbermaid divisions as a centralized resource.  This role requires a technical ability, strong familiarity with metal/plastics properties & products, strong understanding of metals composition and polymer functions and behavior.

DUTIES:
• Under the direction of senior-level engineers, the Associate Materials Engineer is responsible for developing and maintaining the Materials Analysis Lab, as well as conducting material analysis of plastics, metals and alloy.
• Set-up and conduct various experiments and operate analytical testing equipment including, but not limited to, DSC, TGA, FT-IR and MFI in a polymer lab environment (20%).
• Conduct and perform material analysis using a SEM and support problem solving or new product development projects with metallurgical expertise and analysis. Basic understating of relationships between metal processing, microstructure and properties, familiarity with steel metallurgy including heat treating and phase identifications (30%).
• The Associate Material Engineer will actively be involved in New Product Development programs, material productivity projects and Kaizen events across the corporation (40%).
• Participate in material development programs, meeting task goals and deadlines as required (10%).

PREFERABLE CHARACTERISTICS:
• B.S. in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Plastics/Polymers Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering
• 1-2 years of manufacturing or materials lab experience is a plus
• Perpetual drive towards learning, developing and growing
• Strong analytical skills and ability to perform failure analysis on various materials
• Be able to work independently as well as a member of a cross-functional team
• Effective planning/organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to multi-task and set priorities.
• Proficient computer skills
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to stand for 8 hours or more in a manufacturing environment to conduct trials and other tests.
• Ability to work occasional varied shifts or weekends as the project requires.
• Up to 10% domestic travel maybe required.
