Morgan Advanced Materials, a world leader in advanced materials development and production, is
establishing a cutting‐edge Carbon Science Center of Excellence at the Pennsylvania State University,
University Park campus in St. College, PA. The new Center of Excellence will be a world‐class research
facility to drive global developments in the field of carbon research, and develop new, differentiated materials and material technologies related to Carbon and tribology. The Center of Excellence will take the lead in innovating new formulations and processes, serve as a hub for academic collaboration with Penn State and other key university faculties worldwide, and act as a focal point for R&D with raw material suppliers. This partnership with Penn State will enable significant progress in the development of carbon
materials for a range of sectors and applications, and the long‐term goal of the center is to support Morgan’s mission to deliver world‐class materials science solutions that meet the engineering challenges of customers worldwide, safely and efficiently.
Carbon Science Center of Excellence – Work Stream Leader
The Carbon Science Center of Excellence requires a Work Stream Leader to understand and communicate the fundamental materials science that drives the product performance and delivers value and differentiation to our customers.

The Work Stream Leader will also:
 Ensure and promote the Morgan thinkSAFEvalues and program through daily activities;
 Ensure the material variables and their interactions are understood from raw materials through to consolidated products;
 Deliver materials science and knowhow that can be scaled through Morgan’s facilities around the globe;
 Apply existing knowledge of materials and processes so as to maximize benefits to the business through increased distinctive competencies at minimum cost;
 Identify, quantify and communicate improvement opportunities relating to materials science and manufacturing;
 Actively participate in and oversee the technical/engineering activity within an agreed work stream within the COE, developing technical and market understanding to generate market‐leading platforms;
 Act as the focal point for R+D relationships with our suppliers in the defined work stream;
 Work with the COE Leader to ensure all pertinent technical, market and project information is available for strategic management decisions to be made in a timely fashion;
 Be a key contributor to the relevant Technology Roadmaps for the Carbon businesses, including taking input from the businesses to ensure they are commercially driven and prioritized around business needs;
 Use Design of Experiments methodology to organize and carry out materials science experimentation, production and processing trials at laboratory, pilot and production scales;
 Generate new intellectual property that can protect Morgan’s investment and technology position;
 Investigate and resolve technical issues that may arise in the manufacturing process or products.

Education and Experience
 A Ph.D. or Master’s Degree in Carbon or Materials Science or Engineering or related discipline is

Be a leader at the forefront of your respective field and acknowledged as such by the market and
 Have global connections and knowledge of the academic leaders in your field;
 Have led and worked on next generation materials science and processing;
 Have leadership or supervisory experience;
 Have demonstrated the ability to locate and exploit relevant technology from other industries;
 Have led multi‐disciplinary work streams;
 Understand the importance of IP generation and the value of IP to the success of a technically orientated company.
