MatSE Spring Poster Competition


Each Spring, the Department of Materials Science and Engineering holds its annual poster competition.

Students engaged in independent or group research, industry projects, or other academic interests, are encouraged to submit a poster demonstrating their hard work and scholarship. Winners receive cash prizes and special recognition at the annual MatSE Awards Banquet.


The competition is open to all graduate & undergraduate MatSE/EMSC (intending MatSE) majors. Undergraduate Seniors, who have chosen a senior thesis, and Undergraduate Research Fellows (URF) are required to submit posters.


Posters can be submitted by an individual, research group, or a portion of a research group (i.e., research centered around a common theme). Posters will be put into two categories - Individual and Group and ranked as First, Second, or Third places. Each rank will receive awards of $250, $100, or $50 determined by rank.

Poster Submission Deadline

All posters, in a PDF format, are due to be sent in to Andrea Michaels ( NO LATER than TBA. Awards will be announced at the Awards Banquet which will be held on April 18, 2018.

Poster Guidelines

In order to maintain a unified look for the department, please use the templates to include the PSU logo for all posters which can be downloaded here. You are welcome to modify the background on the template with the Reverse PSU logo (the white one). Logo sizes are set to print and should not be scaled higher. Poster sizes must be 36" x 48" in landscape or portrait page orientation. Preferred file format is .pdf only. Should you need any help with either logo email Annie at As a reminder no posters will be accepted after the deadlines.

Judging and Criteria

A panel of intercollege MatSE grad/faculty will judge the posters on technical content, presentation logic, and overall appearance.
