Prof. Gary L. Messing, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Materials Research is the recipient of the 2009 John Jeppson Award. Prof. Messing is Distinguished Professor of Ceramic Science and Engineering and Head of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA. The Jeppson Award recognizes distinguished scientific, technical, or engineering achievements in ceramics. John Jeppson, in whose honor this award is made, was instrumental in establishing the Norton Company.  Messing was recognized "For his distinguished scientific and engineering achievements as well as outstanding leadership and service in the field of ceramic processing science"
