This was an important meeting for Penn State’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering. First, it’s noteworthy that Professor Susan Trolier-McKinstry was elected to The Board of Directors of the Materials Research Society. Well done Susan! Friend of MatSE, Professor L. Eric Cross received the MRS Von Hippel Award – the highest honor of MRS which acknowledges “exceptional research.” Eric was cited “For his imposing leadership in the science and applications of ferroelectric materials”. Congratulations Eric!
Faculty of note who co-organized symposia at MRS include Arthur Motta – Radiation Damage to Ceramic and Insulating Materials for Nuclear Power and Qing Wang – Nanostructured Polymeric Materials – Synthesis and Assembly. Trevor Goff, graduate student in Professor Jim Adair’s group was a blogger during the meeting. His blog entries can be found at http://materials.typepad.com/. Mr. Guang Sheng, a graduate student in Long-Qing Chen’s and Zi-Kui Liu’s research group received the Silver Medal Graduate Student Award. Congrats Guang.
