Michael Blaszkiewicz recipient of First S&T Award

Michael Blaszkiewicz, NucE MS, 1989, Materials PhD, 1994

Michael, a senior scientist at Bayer Material Science LLC in Pittsburgh, PA was a recipient of Bayer's first Annual Science and Technology Award for his team's work on developing an improved method of measuring hydrogen cyanide in fire smoke. At the Polyurethanes Technical Conference in Houston this past October, he received a Best Presentation Award in the Flame Retardents/ Combustibility Session.

Michael represents Bayer on various industry groups dealing with fire science and regulatory issues, such as the International Isocyanate Institute, the Alliance for the Polyurethanes Industry (Chair, Rigid Foam Market Focused Group), ASTM, ISO TC 92, and the SAE Vehicle Fire Safety Committee. In addition, he leads Bayer's Test Design Group, developing tests to characterize the end-use product performance leading to faster-to-market, improved products. Michael is married to Sherri (Conrad) IE BS, 1988. They have two sons (Joey, 8 and Jimmy, 6) and live in Gibsonia, PA.
