In 1969, ASM established the Fellow of the Society Honor to provide recognition to members for their distinguished contributions to materials science and engineering and develop a broadly based forum of technical and professional leaders to serve as advisors to the Society. Dr. Long-Qing Chen was selected as a 2012 AMS Fellow "for outstanding development of computational and experimentally-verified models for predicting phase transformations, microstructural evolution, and ferroelectric and magnetostatic structure-property relationships, in metals, ceramics and thin films."
