Judging and Criteria

All images will be judged by a panel defined by the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and the Materials Research Institute.

Images will be judged in two categories: Scientific and Visual.

Judging criteria for each category is as follows:

  • Effective communication (if the image communicates what the researcher wants it to).
  • Technical capability (does the image capture relevant aspects).
  • Visual impact (engaging, aesthetics, attractiveness).
  • Originality (imagination and creativity).

After deliberation, the panel will choose a maximum of seven winning images. The decision of the panel of judges will be final. A suitable agreement form should be signed by the authors with the approval of the advisor of their project.

These images may also be used in graphic material such as posters, brochures, newsletters, etc., and posted on the MatSE and MRI web sites.
