Deadlines for applications:
Fall 2010: January 25
Spring 2010: October 15

Note: These deadlines apply to international and dometic applicants. All application materials are due at this time.

How to apply
The process of applying for admission to graduate school at Penn State requires the following application materials, which are submitted and uploaded to The Graduate School

The GRADUATE SCHOOL APPLICATION and application materials must be submitted electronically. This reduces your processing time and assures receipt of your application. For application fee information click here

Graduate School:

1
. File the graduate school application electronically. GRADUATE SCHOOL APPLICATION

2. A application fee. (Applications without fees cannot be processed.)

  a. The fee is non-refundable.

b. Make checks payable to The Pennsylvania State University.

c. The check must either be an international money order or a check drawn on a U.S. bank.

d. The canceled check will serve as your receipt.

e. Do not send cash.

f. If you filed electronically and DID NOT pay by credit card, please attach the Fee Form, which was generated by the application.

Materials to be submitted via the electronic application:


1. Three letters of recommendation

2. Statement of purpose

3. Resume

4. Application for Visa Document (International Applicants only) & financial certification.

5. Standardized test scores must be requested from ETS.

Materials to be mailed to Materials Science and Engineeing Program:

1. Two official transcripts from all instituions of higher education attended, both undergarduate and graduate will need to be mailed to our program office at the address below.

Note: Please do not send materails that have already been submitted electronically or sent by ETS

Note: There has been some problems with the automatic email to the people writing the letters of recommindation, please follow up with those people to make sure they know to write a letter for you.

GPA REQUIREMENT: 3.3

MINIMUM TEST SCORE REQUIREMENTS:

A TOEFL score of 550 on the paper test, 213 on the computer-based test, 80 total with a 19 on the speaking section on the Internet-based (iBT) or 6.5 on the IELTS test is required for admission.

GRE combined verbal and quantative score of 1150 is required.

All test scores must be sent from ETS
