Assistantships
Most graduate students in the program receive graduate assistantships
but some teaching assistantships may be available. Students
may also be supported by government agencies or corporations.
Fellowship and Award Opportunities
University
Fellowship: The Graduate School sponsors
eighty University Graduate Fellowships. This prestigious
fellowship
program is available to incoming students and provides payment
of tuition and stipend. Selection of the fellows is made
by the College. Interested prospective students should contact
the graduate program office for details on the College's
deadline,
requirements, and procedures. For more information, click
here.
Minority Scholars Program: Minority Graduate
Scholar awards are fellowships/assistantships granted to
incoming students
as part of the University's comprehensive educational opportunity
program. The graduate admission application serves as the Minority
Graduate Scholars application. Students must be nominated by
their program. An applicant must be a member of a minority
group underrepresented in Penn State's graduate student body.
The Minority Graduate Scholars Program competition is open
to incoming graduate degree candidates who are U.S. citizens
or permanent residents. Awards from the Minority Graduate Scholars
Program are made for two semesters. Tuition (up to 9 credits)
is provided for the following summer, when needed. Applications
will be evaluated on scholarly promise and upon receiving a
commitment from the student's graduate major program to support
the student for a second year. Support for students in one-year
programs is shared by the program and the Graduate School.

Academic Computing Fellowship: The program
is for doctoral students who are U.S. citizens or permanent
residents and who
have a background and strong interest in computing applications
within their disciplines. Through participation in the Fellowship
program, and the utilization of computers, they help develop
and disseminate new methods for problem solving within their
disciplines. Fellows are awarded a stipend plus payment of
tuition and fees. In addition, a $2,000 grant is awarded to
each fellow for educational activities such as travel to national
conferences. Fellowship appointments are for a maximum of three
years, with funding for continuation each year contingent upon
performance in the preceding year and availability of funds.
Faculty members are encouraged to contact prospective applicants
directly. Formal nomination for the Fellowship award will be
made by the academic unit after it has certified the suggested
research area, ensured the availability and interest of an
appropriate faculty member, and ensured that the necessary
administrative support such as office space will be provided
to the Fellow. Nominations are evaluated by the Fellowships
and Awards Committee of the Graduate School. Application forms
are available online as a PDF file or in 313 Kern Graduate
Building. For more information, click

Muan Fellowship: Muan fellowships are awarded by the College
of Earth and Mineral Sciences for continuing graduate students
who excel in their academic study and research.
