  Frequently Asked Questions

Admissions

How many applicants are there applying to your Masters/Ph. D. program? What is your acceptance rate?
Last year we had over 300 applications. We accept students based on how closely their applications meet the iMatSE application qualifications. Approximately 30-40 new graduate students are accepted to the program each year.

Financial Assistance

What is the likelihood of funding?
Financial assistance is awarded on a competitive basis. The vast majority of continuing students are supported by assistantships/fellowships, or by the company or government.

How is one nominated for the Minority Scholars Program and what are the qualifications?
Minority fellowships are awarded through the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences at the recommendation of the program. The sooner we have an applicant's materials, the sooner we can get things done.

How good are the chances for an international student to get
an assistantship?

The number of assistantships are limited. Generally an international student will receive an assistantship offer if they are accepted to the iMatSE graduate program.

Letters of Recommendation

Is there a special form that needs to be sent to the people who are
