Intercollege Graduate Program Committees

Committees charged with guiding our intercollege graduate degree program are largely interdisciplinary, covering the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, the Eberly College of Science, and the College of Engineering.  Members of these committees are charged with everything from directing the overarching program and its curriculum to setting admission standards and making candidacy decisions.

iMatSE Executive Committee

This committee consists of three Associate Deans as designated by the College of Engineering, Eberly College of Science, and the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences. This committee is responsible for programmatic review.

iMatSE Steering Committee

This committee serves as the primary program adivsory committee. This group is responsible for the maintenance of the IGDP MatSE faculty through the screening and recommendation of new faculty candidates and the deletion of faculty due to retirement, departure and/or non-participation.

iMatSE Candidacy Committee: Spring 2016

The candidacy committee is appointed by the Chair and Co-Chair of the program. This committee administers and evaluates the IGDP MatSE Candidacy Examination. This group consists of seven program faculty members, including a chair who will be the Chair or Co-Chair of the IGDP MatSE program. This committee recommends pass/failure and courses or other action to be taken which remedy any deficiency in academic preparation. Committee members also render judgment concerning the ability of the student to communicate in English, both orally and in writing.

iMatSE Admissions Committee

This committee advises and assists the Chair and Co-Chair in publicizing the program to prospective students and recruiting them to Penn State, develops and recommends appropriate guidelines and materials for admission of students, evaluates and recommends candidates for admission, reports to the faculty on committee actions (as needed), adjudicates the selection of students among competing faculty, and circulates the credentials of acceptable students among faculty.

iMatSE Curriculum Committee

This committee recommends changes and/or courses or other action to be taken that remedy any deficiency in the academic program and recommend for vote by the IGDP MatSE faculty the revised curriculum for the program.

iMatSE Awards Committee

This committee consists of three faculty members who review the nominations and determine the awardees for the Robert E. Newnham Award for Research Excellence and iMatSE Graduate Student Leadership Award.
